Chapter 12

Nate's POV

I walked into the council meeting still angry from my last encounter with Layla. She was getting on my nerves intentionally, and I wondered where this new her had been all along.

I must admit, this new version of her is quite intriguing, except for the part where she doesn’t care what I think at all. If we hadn’t gotten off on the wrong foot, would we have been cool?

The six elders stood as I walked in with my Beta, Ralph. We all took our seats at the same time.

“Alpha, we are grateful for what you did for Layla. I am sure your father would be pleased with how you both are doing where they are right now.”

That was her uncle speaking, and I am sure he has no idea how our lives have been and how I have been treating his niece.

“You flatter me, elder. Let’s get straight to the point.”

“We heard you had a major difficulty on your way to get a cure for Layla.”
