Chapter 14

Layla's POV

I can't believe Nate finally sees me after all these years of waiting and pining for him. Now that he's making efforts to spend time with me, we've been on three dates within the span of four days. I have no idea how long I can hold onto my inhibitions.

It's hard to trust him after all this time, especially since he's been restraining himself from punishing Hannah for what she did, even though he almost died. Does he care about her that much? Will he ever overlook my mistakes like that?

Lost in thought, I collided with two of Hannah’s lapdogs who were chatting so absentmindedly that they hadn't seen me coming. Instead of apologizing, they snubbed me and pretended I wasn’t there.

“Stop!” I called out as they walked past me, and they looked at me as if they were expecting someone else but me to be standing behind them.

“Did you just say something?” Piper, one of them, asked, and I raised an eyebrow as I faced them squarely.
