Nate's POV
The moon hung low in the night sky as I sprinted through the dense forest, my breaths heavy, and my heart pounding with urgency. I had to get back to the village; Layla needed me. The mysterious poison coursing through her veins had left her fighting for her life, and to make matters worse, we might have to look for multiple antidotes or hope she fights back.
As I approached the outskirts of the pack with Nicholas and Jacob, the fear of the unknown gripped me. I abandoned my companions and headed straight for her, bursting through the door of the room where she was, where she lay on the bed—Layla, her skin pale, and beads of sweat glistening on her forehead. She murmured incomprehensible words, a clear sign of her struggle against the poison.
