Chapter 41
My father sighed and stood up. Randall didn’t move from behind me, but I could feel his claws ready to spring from his fingers, prepared to act if necessary. I stood up as my father gestured with his hand, and I watched as the blonde woman left through a dark corridor. I stared at her until she disappeared out the back door, leaving it open. My father followed her, so I glanced at Randall to check his expression.
“Should we run?” I whispered.
“No,” he said simply, although his frown was deepening. “I’m hearing something strange. It sounds like screams. Curses. It’s weird. It’s not distant.”
I evaluated the house. My father seemed to be heading toward the back door. It was a single-story house, without a second floor, and probably without an attic or basement to hide someone being tortured. Most likely, whatever he wanted to show us was at the back of the house.
