“Something wrong?” Xavier rolled down the window, a hint of puzzlement in his voice.
Dara stood there with her hands nervously clasped together, her shoulders slightly hunched. She kept her head lowered and spoke softly, almost afraid to be heard. “Sir… thank you for helping me just now.”
He casually waved it off, clearly not thinking much of it. “It was nothing.”
But as his gaze drifted downward, he noticed the blood-soaked white cloth tied around her arm. His expression tightened slightly. Alarmed, he asked, “Is this how you’re treating your wounds?”
His eyes moved lower, taking in her legs—also wrapped in nothing but thin strips of cloth. Some of the deeper cuts were still bleeding steadily, dark stains spreading through the fabric.
