Chapter 69. The Dreams
“Theo,” she murmured softly, reaching out to touch his arm. “What’s wrong?”
For a moment, he didn’t answer. His eyes were distant, haunted—lost in something far away. Then, finally, his voice came low and strained.
“It’s that dream again,” he said, his tone heavy. “Every night, the same one… a little girl keeps crying and begging me to save her. I can’t see her face, but I can feel her pain—like she’s somewhere close, calling out to me.”
Mina froze. Her fingers tightened slightly on the blanket. She didn’t need to ask who that little girl might be. The mention alone made her heart sink.
All these years, she had thought Theo had forgotten about that child—Rina’s child—the one everyone believed dead.
