Dr. Morrison worked quickly, her hands steady despite the urgency of the situation. I watched her face like a hawk, trying to read every flicker of expression, every subtle change in her features that might tell me what was happening to my wife and children.
"Talk to me, Athena," Dr. Morrison said as she examined her. "Was there any bleeding? Fluid leaking?"
"I don't think so," Athena said, her voice shaking. "Just pain. So much pain."
"The abruption is small right now," Dr. Morrison said, straightening up. "But we can't take chances with twins at thirty-three weeks. I'm admitting you. You're not leaving this hospital until those babies are born."
My stomach dropped. "What does that mean? How long?"
"Could be days. Could be hours." Dr. Morrison
