We stood there for a few seconds, speechless. It was as if the whole world was put on hold. I knew in my heart that he already knew. Though I will keep on denying it, hiding my identity is no longer an option for me. Perhaps it’s better this way. Everything was seen, but nothing was said.

This way, the fear of being discovered won’t hold me back anymore.

Right now, Charles is in the presence of a living ghost that he created.

I smirked.

Let’s haunt him then.

“Dia—”

Before he could speak, the Mayor walked out of the office when he noticed that we were at a standstill.

“Mrs. Clinton, this is Mr. Charles Wayne.”

“Oh, I’m very aware, Mayor,” I interjected, emphasizing my fake accent.

“The Waynes. Of course.”

The Mayor smiled.

“Ah, yes. They’re like Clinton, but—”

“Second,” I corrected him while keeping my eyes on Charles.

“Not like. They are only second to Clinton.”

“O-oh, I see.
