Chapter 119. The Weakest Link
Andre's POV
The cell was cold. Not the kind of cold you could shake off or rub out of your bones. It was the type of cold that reminded you you weren’t free. The steel bars, the silence, the god-awful smell of bleach and sweat—everything about this place was designed to strip a man down.
I leaned back against the wall, arms folded, staring up at the single flickering light above me. Sleep had tried to claim me, but pride wouldn't let it. Pride and anger.
My jaw was still clenched from the interrogation earlier. The last few days had been the same cycle. They threw questions like knives, tried to twist every word out of my mouth, but I held my ground. I knew who I was. I knew my rights. And more than that, I knew the truth.
They could accuse me of embezzlement, money laundering, whatever elaborate fiction Elizabeth had crafted, but at the end of the day, lies don't become truth just because they're dressed up in legal documents and court order
