Marcus and Dylan were waiting in the car for Paul and me.

“So, Paul, how are things going with Madison?” I asked.

“They are going well. I’ve kind of been too busy to see her much lately,” Paul replied. “I’m not sure if things will be advancing much. She seems really guarded.”

“I wouldn’t doubt it. Her family life is a piece of work,” I explained. “Her dad sees her as a commodity.”

“You can tell,” Paul advised. “I think she needs help to get past the trauma. I wish I could be the person to help her heal, but I think she might need more than me.”

“I’m so sorry, Paul,” I empathized. “You deserve happiness. You’re such a great guy.”

“Why don’t you have an older sister?” Paul chuckled.
