Mabel POV
My hands trembled as I put on my earrings.
Done, I also reached for my necklace on the dresser and draped it around my neck as Mrs. Chukwuemeka adjusted my zipper.
“Are you sure about this?” she asked.
I nodded. “This is what I want.”
“What about Alec? What if he finds out?”
“It can only be this way. I hope he understands,” I murmured as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, then shifted my stare to the kids' nanny standing behind me.
I drew a deep breath and gently twirled.
For the evening, I was wearing a dusty rose gown that swept the floor as I moved. Its neckline was heart-shaped, and a sequined epaulette framed one shoulder.
