“Are you done?” I asked the makeup artist as she began to put her beauty supplies away.

“Yes, ma’am,” she nodded, to which I sighed in relief before staring at my reflection in the vanity mirror. The realization that today was the day Roman and I would legally become one forever felt real, and tears pooled in my eyes. I sighed and managed to blink my tears away before they smeared the makeup artist’s hard work. I had no idea why I was crying on such a beautiful day.

“Oh, babe,” Amy’s voice wafted into my ears before I felt her hands on my shoulders. “Tears of joy, huh?” She was my matron of honor, just as I had been her maid of honor at her own wedding. Amy had married Damien three months ago, after they had dated for a year, in an intimate ceremony with only their family and close friends in attendance.
