Chapter 53. Slow but Sure

SASHA’S POV

“Farah?” I asked, panicking, spotting Farah in the hospital corridor.

“Sasha, Noah’s fine. Just some scrapes,” Farah said, coming over with Noah asleep in her arms.

I took Noah from Farah. She led me to sit and explained what happened. Some kid was bullying Rachel, tossing a pen from her late mom into the street.

Rachel, crying, ran to grab it. Noah, seeing a car coming, bolted after her, slipping away from his teacher. Thank God Uncle Vincent was already there. He yanked Noah and Rachel to the side but got hit by the car himself.

“I’m sorry, Sasha,” Rachel sobbed. “I shouldn’t have brought Mom’s pen to school.”

The little girl kept crying and apologizing. I hugged her, calming her down. How could I be mad when her tiny hands were all scraped up?

“It’s okay, Rachel. You’re both safe, that’s what matters,” I said, unsure. My throat felt dry. Was I really okay just because Noah and Rachel were safe?

Soon, Sam
