Chapter 24

Even though people say that longing is heavy, Alice's heart felt even heavier having to leave Alden and Gilbert together at the cafeteria. They had to go and submit their assignments to the lecturer.

"Alice and I have known each other for a long time. It all started when she entered high school until this very moment," Gilbert reached for the mineral water in front of him. He took a sip before continuing, "When I was pursuing my master's degree, she came here as a new college student. That brought us even closer."

"You two grew closer and eventually decided to be together. But, unfortunately, fate had other plans because Alice is my soulmate," Alden quickly interrupted before Gilbert could finish his sentence.

Alden stared sharply at Gilbert, who had been nonchalant throughout the conversation. As Alice's husband, he didn't appreciate Gilbert being so bold in sharing their past relationship.

"You're right. All this time, I was just guarding someone else's soulmate.
