Chapter 27
For nearly an hour, Alden stood in front of Chloe's room. Knocking on the door and calling out Alice's name, hoping she would come out and meet him. There were many things he wanted to say and explain to his wife. But Alice didn't respond, she shut her ears with a pillow and forced herself to sleep. She no longer cared about Alden's presence.
In such a situation, who should be blamed? They should have been supporting each other instead of reminiscing about their pasts.
Alden, slapped by Alice's words, realizes too late that he has been selfish and insensitive all along. Alice had suppressed her feelings for Gilbert and gave herself and her feelings to him, yet he was still consumed by his feelings for Chloe.
Frustrated, Alden groans, cursing himself for not appreciating Alice's sacrifices all this time. He always blamed her for his own indecisiveness. He should have realized that it was Alice who was hurt, not him. They both lost, not just him alone.
