A moment passed before Emile nodded in satisfaction. “If that’s the case, then it’s fine.”

Emmeline let out a silent sigh of relief.

“The Blackthorns are active in law. It’s better for you to have someone experienced by your side. If this judge is helping you, you’ll have a strong case.”

He paused, then added, “I can come with you tomorrow to meet the lawyer.”

Emmeline shook her head quickly. “You don’t need to put off work for me. I can handle it on my own. Mr. Blackthorn will be there too.”

Emile’s brows drew together in protest.

She placed a hand on his shoulder. “It won’t be the last time I meet with the lawyer,” she assured him. “You can come with me next time.”

Emile sighed, closing his eyes briefly before nodding. “Fine.” His lips twitched into a small smile. “You know... we should meet Judge Blackthorn sometime. It wouldn’t hurt for us to have a connection with his family.”
