Emmeline shook her head, a small, tired smile tugging at her lips. “No, Brody was fine. I’ll tell you everything over a glass of whiskey.”
Sliding off the bar, she brushed against him, and his breathing hitched slightly.
“Take it easy, little girl,” Zavian teased. “There’s already a problem down there, and you don’t want to make it worse.”
Emmeline laughed softly, brushing her fingers against his chest. “Sorry. I got a little carried away.”
Pointing to the other side of the bar, she added, “Go sit down. I’ll be the bartender tonight.”
Before she could step away, Zavian caught her arm. “Sit. The bartender’s job is to listen, not the other way around.”
He brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch lingering. “Let me take care of you tonight.”
Emmeline gave him a grateful look before slipping around to the other side of the bar.
Zavian shrugged off his jacket and draped it over a stool before stepping behind the counter.
