Chapter 66. Birthday Dinner
Alexander’s POV
Just then, we both started talking at the same time, our words overlapping. I stopped, letting her go first.
“Ladies first, you… go ahead,” I said, my voice soft, almost hesitant as I winked at her.
Nina looked up at me and smiled softly. “I just wanted to say thank you,” she said, her voice steady and filled with emotions. “For what you did with Leo. I don’t know what would’ve happened if you hadn’t shown up.”
I nodded, trying to act like it was no big deal, but my mind was racing. I wanted to tell her the truth—that I hadn’t just coincidentally shown up, that I had followed her because I couldn’t bear the thought of her with someone else, especially Leo. But the words got stuck, and all I could say was a weak, “It was nothing. I’m glad I could help.”
Nina bit down on her lower lip as she furrowed her brows slightly. It felt as though she sensed there was more I was not telling her.
