Chapter 54. The Howling Wolf
Lucien smiled as he stood by the doorway, the soft crackle of the fire behind him faded into the quiet warmth of the now subdued forest.
His smile widened as he looked back towards the bed where his mate now slept.
Aria was still sound asleep, her breathing was calm and smooth. Even unconscious, he could spot a smile forming at the corner of her lips.
The moonlight spilled through the now defrosted window and shone brightly on Aria’s sleeping form. For a brief moment, Lucien thought he saw the moonlight flicker, but that disappeared too quickly to confirm.
Aria looked peaceful, like she didn’t belong to the mortals on the planet, like she belonged among the stars.
Like she was blessed.
With narrowed eyes and clenched fists, he tore his gaze away from her. His chest tightened as he took a step forwards, out into the night.
He didn’t want to leave her, but the ache he could feel deep in his soul was undeniable.
