Death Anniversary

“Clara. Clara is my name.” Soleil interrupted Aunt Julia and uttered that name. Aunt Julia lifted her eyebrow as Adele nodded. Aunt Julia and Soleil decided to return home once they finished eating. Hugo walked to his bedroom, while Adele escorted them to the gate. The driver and car were already outside, waiting for them to go. Aunt Julia went inside, leaving Soleil outside. Soleil saw Adele’s stray hair on her face and tucked it behind her ear.

“I’m losing track of what’s going on with Hugo.” The wind was howling. Soleil massaged her two arms as if they were cold. “But I’ll keep an eye on him from afar. I can see he’s happy, and I believe I am as well.” She clasped Adele’s hands in hers and noticed the engagement ring. She continued, “I’m sorry to bother you with this request. I hope you look after him. Don’t make him feel the same way I did.”
