Chapter 14. What Would You Do in My Shoes?

Mr. Newman’s expression was slightly sorrowful as he revealed, “As a babysitter.”

Zora scoffed and was about to refuse when he made the greatest revelation. “But you would have to marry him. It’s simple. I want you to marry my son for one year. I will pay you handsomely for it.”

Zora didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. This was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard. After experiencing a loveless marriage firsthand, she was not willing to make that mistake again.

Not even someone as powerful as Mr. Newman could make her consider it. “Mr. Newman, I think you have the wrong person. I’m neither ready to be a babysitter nor get married. I’m sorry, but you just wasted your time.”

She opened the car door, about to step out when he explained calmly, “My son had an accident and is in a vegetative state. Before that, a girl was pregnant for him but died giving birth to his child on the same day he had the accident.”

Zora paused, puzzled by the revelation.
