Chapter 25. I Miss My Wife

“Piper? What happened to her?” Ezrah asked worriedly from the other end of the line. He must have broken things off with Piper, but he still cared for her. She was his first love, and despite her constant disobedience, she never truly offended him.

“I don’t know all the details, but I heard it was a suicide attempt. Her mother found her unconscious in the jacuzzi in a pool of blood. She had been feeling depressed lately, and we thought she would get over it. We never expected her to slit her fingers and await death.”

Ezrah closed his eyes in deep thought. Why did all the women in his life resort to death as an escape from him? At least Piper was still alive. “Which hospital is she in?”

There was a brief pause on the line before Mr. Henshaw replied. “You don’t have to come. It’s a four-hour drive. I’ll just check on her and arrange another day for the meeting,” he said sternly.
