Chapter 34
17th Century
Few weeks later.
Late afternoon, Diana was awakened by the howls of the wild wolves from the woods. After a quick nap in the garden, her mind swum with a departing dream as she sighed. Reluctant to end her beautiful dreams, she began her night with the same dread of waiting for Andrew to return. It had been months, and Andrew had not returned.
The light of late afternoon set as she slowly opened her eyes and brought her hands to guard the unwanted brightness from the garden lamp post.
Diana surveyed the landscape and gazed down below the distant cliff. Far away through the land was a sliver of white, and the stars felt more distant in the coldness of winter. Sunsets came in the kind of oranges that bring warmth to her eyes and soul. It was early fall and still warm, but a chill went through her. This was the point of no return. There was no going back.
