Chapter 39. He's Back

Annabelle’s POV

The security guards at Stefan’s mansion let us inside and Michael drove us inside and parked his car in the driveway. He dropped me off. I got down immediately and thanked him. He got down too and came towards me while I avoided his eyes. I could sense the hesitation in him, as if wanted to say something to me. 

“It’s a pleasure to have you working at the institute, Anna. Are you enjoying your work?” he asked, looking down at me and smiling.

“Yeah, I am. Thanks for the lift,” I said. I didn’t know what else he wanted to say to me. It was an awkward situation. I didn’t want to invite him inside, in case he misinterpreted it as my interest in him. Also, it wasn’t my house. It was Stefan’s. Jenny wasn't there, and I didn't want to be all alone with him.
