Chapter 43. Unexpected

The courtyard which is called a bailey was protected by a ditch and a palisade, strong timber fence. The entrance was protected by a lifting bridge. Inside the bailey were stables, workshops, and a chapel. The motte was the final refuge in this castle.

As they got inside, Ramsey mounted down from his horse, followed by Lacey and James. “The Baroness will be pleased to see you. Follow me,” said Ramsey.

James brought his mouth close to Lacey’s ear and then whispered to her, “Is like he doesn’t know your mother has been trying to kill you.”

“I’m not sure he or anyone else knows.”

“Then be ready for anything because I won’t let any harm befall you.”

Approaching the throne hall of the Baroness, the entrance door was shut. The entrance door was made of thick wood. Two guards were standing by the corner fully dressed in their armor with spears and shields.
