Chapter 70. Day Four: Cake and Tea with Grammy (3)
Once they were seated, Lilith called for the server, but Aaron abruptly dismissed him. Instead, he cut into one of the cakes himself, put the slice on a side plate and laid it out in front of Keira, before spearing it with a fork. He pulled the fork out of the cake, holding out a forkful to her.
Aaron: Red velvet. It’s her favorite. Say aah, baby.
Nathan: Well this is shaping up to be a train wreck.
Nathan turned a laugh into a cough.
James: You’re going to be a lot of help today.
That was the fakest of his fake smiles. It shouldn’t have mattered that Aaron remembered this every day, forgettable moment from their past. It was the second time they met. He choked on the red velvet cake she was feeding him when Troy told him she was an assassin.
Even as he sat there, acting like a child, she couldn’t help but smile at the memory. Not knowing what else to do, she opened up for him and let him feed her. Lilith watched the pair with interest.
