Chapter 44. Day Three (The Sitdown) (2)

Ethan and Aria were preparing their troops rapidly at Troy’s insistence to take the building when the shooting started. It came out of nowhere, taking them by surprise.

“Take cover!” Ethan yelled.

Aaron had been watching Adele. She was with Prince Ethan every step of the way, planning and making moves like the soldier she was. Even now he couldn’t stop watching her. Adele didn’t need his protection, but when the shooting started he went for her anyway, throwing her onto the back seat of a car and diving on top of her. When his body landed, his arms went over her head protectively.

She wanted to scream at him, to ask him what he was doing, but the storm of bullets was hitting hard and there would be nothing to do but take cover for a while. So instead she wrapped her arms around his waist and let him take care of her.

“You and I need to talk,” he said, wondering if now was the time to start returning fire.

“You really want to talk right now?” she asked,
