Chapter 49. Never Forgets

Marissa's heart skipped a bit as she looked back and saw the silhouette of the man who had his back to her as he was busy looking around the home and noting something in his leather-bound book.

"Mummy, are you okay now?" Emma asked again. Marissa looked back at him and smiled. His caring nature and intelligence confounded her most of the time, and she would at times just look at him do or say things and smile happily to herself. Evelyn sure did a good job. For a boy who was just 3 years old, Emma is so intuitive and so attuned to people that he knows when things are not right, even when she tries to shrug it off.

The boy was fast becoming her best friend and confidant, as she could talk to him about most things some adults would have no clue about and he would understand. When he doesn't understand something, he never shies away from asking questions. He knew just when she needed a hug, and most times she found him pondering something she had told him earlier.
