Chapter 7
My main concern was the cold. Sasha was very small and had never spent much time outdoors; I knew our blood would help her resist it, but I feared for her. Mirko had only started his training a few months ago; he couldn’t abuse his luck either. I had to locate myself. Our house was in Bear Valley, and if I wanted to go somewhere before I bled to death, I needed transportation. I couldn’t steal a vehicle; that would attract attention. It was already clear that I could not go to the authorities. Two fewer things to think about.
The simplest thing was to find a hotel and ask for a room to keep the children warm.
The training kept me steady and awake. I had to take advantage of that.
One way. I needed to find a path or a highway to orient myself. Going back to the city was the only thing I could think of: finding lights, getting clean clothes. My senses weren’t as cloudy anymore, so I was able to use my hearing and smell again. We were not alone, but I didn’t perceive
