“Stop, for a moment, please. My God, this is all…”
Johanna stopped the recording. She put a trembling hand to her forehead, with a groan, and began to move to get off the bed once more, slowly. With a gentle push I helped her upright on the mattress, but something wasn’t right.
“Are you okay?” I caught her attention; she seemed a little distracted.
“It’s okay, I have to go to the bathroom…”
“Don’t lie to me,” I growled, worried. “What’s wrong with you?”
“I don’t feel very well.”
“Does something hurt you? Let me help you. Han, talk to me, what do you feel? Is it the baby?”
I jumped off the bed and ran to the other side so she could lean on me. She grabbed me by the wrist and put her other hand on her belly. More than distracted, she seemed dizzy. She didn’t look directly at me; her temples were sweaty. I was shaking. Her breathing was not regular. I focused on the beat of her heart, and I noticed it was somewhat slow.
