Chapter 5
Jonathan was instantly taken aback.
Carnelian Kyle wants to meet him.
He had been here for over a month and finally had the chance to meet Carnelian Kyle.
She was Derek's soon-to-be wife, or now Derek Wang's.
The relationship was so convoluted that one might use the term 'complicated' to describe it.
If the engagement were real, Carnelian Kyle would be his fiancée.
"Why are you still standing there? Hurry up and meet the boss, or wait for them to come to you?" Manager Dhara urged Jonathan when he didn't respond.
"Oh, then please handle my work here."
"Understood. If anything, I'll get someone else to cover for you! But remember Jonathan. I've always been a good boss to you, so if you make it big, don't forget about me!" the warehouse manager said half-jokingly.
Ten minutes later, Jonathan ascended to the highest floor and stood outside the general manager's office.
Carnelian was indeed a competent woman.
Although she was the daughter of the prominent Kyle family in Crimson Ridge, she did not join her family business after studying abroad. Instead, she opted for self-reliance and joined this company, Orchid.
Despite her young age, she was already the branch's general manager.
"The general manager invites you in." said the assistant after notifying her and stepping out.
"Thank you."
Jonathan walked into the office to meet Carnelian.
Contrary to many names with particular disposition, Carnelian's parents named her somewhat arbitrarily.
However, Carnelian was a beautiful, charming girl with alluring attributes that could captivate any man, and her body curves left nothing to criticize.
"Have you had a good look?"
However, Carnelian's voice was stern and cold.
Jonathan shifted his gaze elsewhere and apologized sincerely: "I'm sorry, Miss Kyle. I couldn't help myself."
Carnelian's beauty did not enter him.
He looked at her for a bit longer than usual, owing to her identity.
The soon-to-be wife of the fifth young master of the Wang family.
And he was the actual fifth young master.
"Alright, I'll let it slide."
Seeing Jonathan's sincere apology, Carnelian didn't want to quibble either. She examined him, saying: "Anyway, he's a talent! I heard that you settled some trouble for Gregory last night?"
Indeed, it was about this.
Jonathan answered: "Making up for the oversight."
"Recognizing the issue too. Without your help, Gregory would have been out of work today."
Hearing this, Jonathan broke into a cold sweat for Gregory. He felt that Carnelian knew about this already, merely wanting to see how Gregory would handle it.
If he didn't handle it satisfactorily, he'd have to pay for it with his position.
Who knows if he realizes how close he is to the door of officialdom?
"I called you here not because of the contract Gregory covertly supplied to the Summon store. If you've managed to deal with Alyssa, this matter is considered resolved."
"But it's because Carnelian, myself, values talent. If you've got skills, don't bury them in the warehouse, I'll promote you to be Gregory's deputy in the marketing department, okay?"
"Ah, Gregory's capabilities in the company aren't that great, but he's very cunning and knows how to deal with people. As long as he doesn't repeat mistakes like this again, promotion is only a matter of time. You move up to be his deputy, and it won't be long before you succeed him."
"What do you think?"
Jonathan was quite surprised to hear this.
Carnelian proposed lifting him from the company's lowest position to a crucial situation like Deputy Marketing Manager. He needed to find out how many levels that would be.
No matter how he thought about it, it seemed strange to Jonathan.
But Jonathan hesitated momentarily before happily accepting: "Thank you, Director Kyle, for your promotion. I'll certainly do my job well."
"Hmm, I'll give you a day to prepare, and you'll move to the new office tomorrow morning." Carnelian said succinctly.
After Jonathan left, Carnelian's assistant - Willow - entered the room.
"So, I told you to investigate Jonathan. What have you found out?" Carnelian asked softly.
Willow replied: "He's from Elite Summit, very wealthy, but I couldn't get any more specific information."
Instantly, Carnelian furrowed her brows, surprised: "Why not?"
"Director Kyle, there's nothing on this Jonathan guy's background. I tried to use the company's connections to investigate in Elite Summit but was frequently obstructed as if his information is secret in Elite Summit!"
Willow, too was baffled, feeling as though Jonathan had appeared out of thin air.
By all rights, even if Carnelian recognized Jonathan's capabilities, she couldn't have directly promoted him to the critical position of deputy director of export business.
What would the employees who have dedicated themselves to the company think?
Carnelian did this because she felt Jonathan had some kind of scheme when joining the company.
The company's surveillance screens frequently displayed Jonathan's shadowy figure, giving the impression of a detective in the throes of an investigation.
Although Carnelian had never revealed herself, she had, in truth, been observing Jonathan for quite some time.
If one were to call Jonathan a spy planted by a rival company, he hadn’t done anything unusual, nor had he ever ventured into places he shouldn’t have.
However, given Jonathan's capabilities, Carnelian was confident he wouldn’t just waltz into their company to work as a warehouse employee.
Hence, she had conveniently arranged for his placement at this juncture.
She wanted to see what, after all, was Jonathan's real purpose for coming to Orchid.
“CEO Kyle, I don't think you should worry about this anymore. Don't forget. You'll be getting married in a month!" Willow gently reminded her.
Married?
Her expression suddenly turned slightly peculiar. Carnelian exhaled: "Right, it's about time to get married.”
Just then.
Willow laughed: "Speak of the devil, and he shall appear! CEO Kyle, look, your man is here.”
Carnelian followed her gaze. Standing outside the office was a man clad in elegant attire, holding a radiant bouquet. Besides Derek Wang - Carnelian’s soon-to-be husband - who else could it be?
Yet, Derek Wang seemed somewhat distracted at the moment.
As if he was lost in his thoughts.
“Let him in." Carnelian commanded, furrowing her brow.
“Yes, yes!”
This Derek wasn’t a stranger, but Jonathan's younger brother - Derek.
