Chapter 72
Ronan’s POV
I had always fought demons to heal myself, but I never imagined I’d one day have to fight them in flesh and blood. I groaned as I gripped the sheets, every fiber of my being straining against unseen forces, my insides twisting in agony. No matter how hard I heaved or writhed, their hold only tightened. I was trapped.
It felt as though a thousand clamps pinched me down, caging me from the inside out. Memories—both cherished and dreadful—crashed into my mind until my head swam and my heart lurched. I tried to lift my arms, knowing perfectly well I couldn’t budge, but I tried all the same. The invisible clamps only grew firmer.
Worse yet, I couldn’t see my captors. Sweat beaded and trickled down my clammy skin, soaking the sheets and plastering them to me with cold discomfort. Every desperate jerk of my body ratcheted up the pain, feeding the mystical grip. The more I struggled, the stronger they became.
