I was unconscious for only a few seconds before Malrik’s thunderous voice thundered into the room, dragging me back to awareness. He strode toward Saelis, roaring his fury, while Saelis shot me venomous glares. Virella leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, a faint, amused smile playing on her lips as she watched the spectacle.
Seizing the momentary distraction, I willed my senses to sharpen. Piecing together Saelis’s earlier words and the presence of Malrik and Virella, I finally saw the full picture: Saelis had coveted Ronan long before I stepped into his life—he’d viewed her as a sister, uninterested in her advances. Then I arrived as his mate, and her envy bloomed into hatred. She’d feigned friendship just to get close to me, all the while plotting my downfall.
