When it ended, he rose to his feet, helping me rise to mine. He was my height now. My neck hurt from looking at a ten-foot-tall owl.
“I didn’t mean to interrupt what you were saying just before we made love.”
“Interrupt me how?”

“How?”

The breath left my body. I began to shake with betrayal and rage. “You’re my Maker…?”
“I still feel the ice of your eyes as I flew into your mouth and into your heart. My intent was to slaughter you, but the weight of your pain and heartbreak won me over and I let you live.”
