Chapter 62. Assistant

Lily was dressed in a sweeping white dress with floral bust. Her long, curly blonde hair was piled atop her head. She nearly tripped in her crystal heels when she screamed over her father's closed casket, vowing to hate the person that killed him for the rest of her life.
Yes, she was Daddy's Little Girl. She'd just enrolled at Notre Dame. I could remember when she was born, and how happy Max was to finally have a child, after trying for one for so long.
I used to sit up with him over bottles of beer while he, teary eyed, spoke about the visits to the doctors with his wife, going through therapy and taking tests, trying to see why his wife couldn't conceive.
He had a low sperm count. The thought of never having kids killed him inside, but I helped him remain strong, like any real friend would do.
He wouldn't see his daughter off to college. He would never see her graduate.
And it killed Lily inside.
She wound up becoming one
