My hotel mates are not happy with the new rates. The truth is, I would never have wanted to impose this jail payment law, but either I would adapt, or my plans would go to hell, and I wouldn’t let that happen.
Those who pay are angry because they are running out of money, and those who don’t pay are being exposed to humiliation and minor aggression, except for one death, which, I would like to think, was accidental. I don’t like this. I don’t want to be exposed and have my plans exposed, but there is nothing I can do. The new guards are taking half of the weekly takings on the condition that they do not interfere.
I don’t care anymore.
It’s expensive, but it’s a necessary expense. The tunnel advances at the expected pace, and whatever happens in here, I know I will get out of this hell. I continue with the same daily routine; nothing has changed; I just listen to the comments under my breath, all saying wonderful things about me.
