Chapter 108. Forty-Eight Hours
Elara POV
I hesitate before getting into the car. There is something keeping me here, but I can’t put my finger on it. The rescue mission to save Zeke is fully planned out, but I can’t bring myself to get into the car. What is holding me back?
“Elara,” his voice rises on the air.
Surely, I misheard. A sob catches in my throat when I turn to see him. He is standing just beyond the driveway, covered in mud and blood. His appearance doesn’t stop me from running to him. I fall into his arms, letting him hold me up.
“You are okay,” I cry.
He places little kisses all over my face. “I am.”
“How did you get away?” I ask as tears stream down my face.
He holds me at arm’s length. “I had help from a little girl named Faith.”
I look around him. “Where is she?”
His face falls. “She wouldn’t come with me. She disappeared before I could take her.”
