Chapter 23
Disappointment
He told her he’d never hurt her again. He’d never make the mistake of neglecting her again. He told her he loved her the way she was, and he was ready to fight for their love to blossom. He told her he was going to be with her no matter what, no matter the circumstances.
He lied.
Even though he was standing before her now, she was fighting to believe what he was telling her. They used to be her favorite words to hear from him. But she had gotten so used to hearing the words without actions that now, she was tired of them. Somehow, she had memorized some of them. It felt as if she didn’t want to hear them anymore. Or maybe she just needed a slight amount of action to believe them.
