“I really wanted you two to work out,” Shannon said.

Alice didn’t want to believe Shannon was speaking to her, but she was the only one in the room with her, so it had to be her. She looked at Shannon through the mirror with a quizzical look.

Shannon smiled brightly and shook her head. “You and Chris,” she said briefly. “I never thought you wouldn’t end up together, you know.”
