Book 2: To Fight with Honor

I am hit from behind by what feels like a ton of bricks. I go flying face first into the dirt and roll onto my back just in time to see a hybrid in Tormentian colors descend on top of me, snapping for my throat.

“Shit!” I didn’t even hear him coming, and I didn’t have anyone behind me to shout out a warning.

I grab the hybrid by the throat just as he is about to bite into my neck, stopping him a hairsbreadth from my flesh.

“Ding, ding, I found a king,” the hybrid, who is mostly in his vampire form but has the claws and paws of a wolf shifter, sing-songs while I push him back. He swipes my arm with his claws, and I grunt and drop my arm.

“Aw, did that hurt?” the hybrid giggles.

I’m not sure he’s entirely sane. “Fuck you,” I growl, squeezing his throat again and ignoring the pain. I push him off me and jump to my feet. He’s up in a moment, staring me down. There’s something more to his claws than just pointiness. I think they m
