Zachary awoke in a different dimension. It was completely engulfed in darkness, lacking any signs of life. He scanned his surroundings, attempting to discern his location, but the more he focused, the more obscured this place became. There was just a single realm that gave this sensation.
The afterlife.
He was dead. This was the realm before the existence beyond. Every deceased person arrives here prior to their loved ones performing the necessary rites for their transition into the afterlife. If these rituals are not observed, they will roam in the underworld for countless years, unable to attain the peace they rightfully deserve.
He recalled the circumstances of his death and the location of it. He perished in battle, protecting Scarlett.
