Zachary's POV

Gradually, the light seeped into Zachary's consciousness, dispelling all remnants of darkness within him. For a brief moment, he believed he had reached the entrance to hell and thought he had entered, but it turned out he had not. If he had entered, there would have been no light. He felt uncertain about his place in the afterlife; he doubted the moon goddess would accept him following his actions—after having succumbed to the influence of Shadow and Chaos. The moon goddess was likely just as furious with him now as she had been when she unleashed his curse. 

This was not the afterlife, which indicated that he had managed to survive the attack he had the previous night. It brought deep relief, yet it also raised numerous questions. His senses heightened, and he straightened up, recognizing his surroundings. He was in Scarlett's house. She saved him. She had rescued him from the threshold of the underworld and presrved his life.
