Scarlett pushed the door open and entered the house. Zachary stood up right away, and a concerned expression remained on his face. "Did everything go as planned?"
"It did but it was bad for him and for me too," she replied, and she was unsure how she was managing to stay upright at that moment.
He approached her quietly and embraced her to provide solace. "I'm so sorry." She was unaware of how much she craved his embrace until it enveloped her. The solace they offered was exactly what she needed. For a brief time, she lowered her defenses and held onto him, crying over her grief. She was consumed by pain and guilt. She had done what she thought was best, but instead of feeling relieved, guilt overwhelmed her.
