My eyes dance joyfully as I watch my mate comfortable around my family. Apphia is laughing and talking to everyone. My heart feels light, and I wish I could freeze this moment. I gaze at her.

However, darkness brews inside me when I remember the evil seeker is after her. I clutch the arm of my chair, claws digging into it. I won’t let anything harm her. I will protect her; whoever wants to get to her will go through me first.

Apphia grips my hand softly and smiles at me. Her touch instantly puts me at ease, and the voices in my head disappear.
