Chapter 129. The Truth about Maureen
The wind is chilly, and the night sky is full of stars. Lara, Chris, and the boys are enjoying their time together around a campfire. They had taken a reprieve, retreating to Chris’ beach house for a weekend, to numb the sting of Dwayne and Zayn’s suspension from summer music classes.
‘Lara,’ a whisper in the wind is heard. She turns to the perceived direction of the sound and sees nothing. Perhaps her inner wolf is playing tricks on her. She shakes her head.
‘Lara Croft’, the voice calls her again, louder this time. It captures her, sending a consuming hypnotic energy to capture her. Chris and the boys have strolled away to the edge of the waters, leaving her alone to grapple with this force. She is pulled to her feet and loses control of herself. The next thing she knows, she is on her way to the woods behind their mini cottage.
