“A week?” Grace raises a brow. “How come?” If there's anything she's sure of, it’s that when these two aren’t living under the same roof for easy communication, they’re either in close contact or visiting each other daily.

Lara’s expression drops. She walks toward her bed and sinks into it. “I messed up, Grace,” Lara whispers, “big time.”

She heaves a heavy sigh and drops her head. “The mission, Grace. I failed.”

“Oh, poor child…” Grace says, sitting next to Lara on the bed. She gently rubs Lara's back. “What happened? Did he discover that you were just lying to get to him?”

If he did, I wouldn’t be beating myself up like this, as it wouldn’t be my fault, Lara thinks. She then turns to her aunt. “He didn’t, Aunt. I ran away before he did.”
