Chapter 20. Misfortune of the Wolf
My legs trembled uncontrollably. I could no longer keep myself upright; my body sagged like a rag doll offered up for the Alpha’s merciless sport. Tears streamed down my cheeks. With each cruel kiss of the whip, my determination to remain silent weakened, but I clung to it fiercely. Blood dripped from my mouth, the taste of iron sharp on my tongue, where I’d gnawed my lips to keep from screaming.
Inside my mind, my wolf howled in agony, her pain echoing through every nerve ending. She couldn’t comprehend how her mate could stand by and watch this brutality, much less inflict it himself. I had no answers for her anguished cries.
From the assembled pack came a low chorus of disapproval. Noah and Daniel growled under their breaths, each voicing his displeasure, but neither dared step forward to intervene—for challenging Alpha’s decree would invite dire consequences.
