Chapter 22. A Hungry Gaze
I held Elizabeth close to my chest as I walked towards the cave where we would spend the night. She was wrapped in a fur blanket, shielded from the harsh elements. Had she been in her wolf form, the cold wouldn't have bothered her, but she couldn't shift until she healed.
After several minutes, we reached the waterfall. Elizabeth's closed eyes fluttered open as I shifted her weight to one arm, freeing the other to climb the jagged rocks. She nestled her head close to my chest to avoid the mist from the falls.
Fifteen feet up, we reached a small ledge. I pushed aside the thick foliage concealing the entrance and slipped through. Elizabeth lifted her head, looking around. The cave, carved inside the mountain, was about ten feet wide and eight feet deep, just tall enough for me to stand.
