Noah held my gaze intently. “I still can’t believe he let you slip away,” he admitted, shaking his head in quiet dismay. He paused, sounding almost wistful as if he were addressing a memory rather than speaking aloud. “If I had ever found my mate…” His eyes softened, glistening with a gentle sorrow. “I would wrap her in my arms and never, ever let her go.”
