Chapter 69. What Was Revealed
I didn’t hesitate to obey.
Noah and I left the infirmary, but I veered off toward the nearest bathroom. My dress—ridiculously short even for formal wear—made me feel exposed and awkward. Trembling, I slipped inside and changed into something more modest, doing my best to calm my racing heart.
Once I’d composed myself, Noah and I ventured out into the dark forest. Neither of us spoke; I could sense his watchful presence beside me as he followed my lead.
We reached the Whisperfall Grotto—a hidden alcove lined with mossy stones. A propane heater sat quietly in the corner, and fur blankets lay folded in one corner. A small stack of rations—dried meat and fruit—rested on a rock shelf. My pillow, topped with a well-loved teddy bear, was perched neatly where Ashley had insisted I take it.
I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment.
